England’s win over Tunisia in their opening match of this summer’s World Cup is the main story across today’s back pages – but there is a growing feeling Manchester City are set to complete a significant transfer.

Sky Sports News believes City are closing in on a deal for Napoli midfielder Jorginho.

The Brazilian, who scored against City in the Champions League last season, is understood to be keen to make the switch, and the two clubs are thought be getting closer to agreeing terms of a transfer.

“Manchester City are closing in on a deal in the region of £46.5m for Napoli midfielder Jorginho, according to Sky sources,” they write.

Sky Sports News understands that, despite reports in Italy, no deal has been agreed as yet.

“A number of issues are still to be sorted, including payment schedules, add-ons and the possibility of a pre-season friendly between the two clubs.

“The Italy international has posted a picture on Instagram boarding a flight at the end of a family holiday to Brazil and is expected to head for Manchester for a medical whenever an agreement is reached.”

Indeed, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano issued a tweet suggesting the deal to take Jorginho to the Etihad is nearing completion.

And Stuart Brennan at the Manchester Evening News has also added his thoughts, saying: “Manchester City are set to clinch their first transfer deal of the summer, according to sources in Italy.

“Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis is said to be ready to rubber-stamp an initial bid of £46million for Italy international midfielder Jorginho.

“The two clubs have been wrangling over the price for weeks, with the player already agreeing an £80,000-a-week contract with City through his agent Joao Santos.

“But it was reported in Italy that Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli and City’s Txiki Begiristain have struck a deal, which is expected to be OK’s by De Laurentiis before the paperwork gets done.

“Santos had earlier urged the two clubs to bring the saga to a conclusion, telling Tutto Mercato Web: ‘Today, the certainty is that Manchester City want Jorginho and the boy wants to go there.

“’It will be a crucial week. Jorginho must know his future soon.’”
