The 1-0 win over Southampton was the perfect end to a perfect season as the Blues became centurions for a second time having already scored more than a 100 goals in the Premier League.
Evidence, surely, that this is the greatest team to ever grace English football’s top flight.
What happened?
With St Mary’s bathed in sunshine, the sell-out crowd were in the mood for a party with safety almost assured after the Saints’ midweek win at Swansea.
The Blues, meanwhile, were looking to secure three more Premier League records that would complete an incredible campaign.
It was the hosts who started with their tails up and but for the woodwork, could have been ahead on eight minutes when Wesley Hoedt headed a corner against the crossbar.
It was nip and tuck as the half continued, with Kevin De Bruyne and Leroy Sane probing the home defence at one end and plenty of energy and intent from Southampton at the other.
The one thing the game did lack in the opening period was any serious action in the box with the Blues crowded out whenever they attacked and the Saints defending in numbers.
By the break, the champions had failed to register a single shot on target, despite bossing the possession 71%-29%.
City shifted up a gear immediately after the break and John Stones came close to turning in a De Bruyne free-kick on 49 minutes, with the England defender just inches away from connecting at the far post.
Then on 55, a clever cross by Bernardo found Fernandinho in space in the box but the Brazilian fired his shot high, wide and not so handsome.
Just past the hour-mark the Blues came agonisingly close twice within the space of a minute as first Raheem Sterling rattled the post with a shot from 15 yards and then Stones saw a header tipped over by Alex McCarthy.
It seemed a goal must be coming, but Saints hung in with some dogged defending and the occasional smattering of luck.
That said, Dusan Tadic should have broken the deadlock on 77 minutes after he found himself with acres of space in the box but Claudio Bravo managed to delay him long enough for Fernandinho to be on point and clear his shot off the line.
Then, deep into added time, Gabriel Jesus raced on to a De Bruyne pass to lob the ball over McCarthy and send the travelling City fans wild for a dramatic end to a quite wonderful campaign.

He added his 16th assist at the perfect time with another typical non-stop display.
What it means…
City finish the season with 100 points to ensure the greatest winning margin in Premier League history.
What’s next?
With the season now complete, the last major moment of the campaign will come on Monday when the players and staff enjoy the champions parade in Manchester city centre as thousands of Blues are expected to line the streets as the open top bus passes by.
Then we’ll have to wait until August for it all to start again and City to begin their defence of the Premier League crown, though there will be pre-season the US tour and the World Cup happening in-between.
