Pep Guardiola has revealed that Oleksandr Zinchenko and Rodrigo are set to be sidelined for the next month.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash at home to Aston Villa, the City boss provided an injury update on the duo

Ukrainian international Zinchenko underwent surgery on his left knee in Barcelona earlier this week and the boss said he is expected to return in ‘between four and five weeks.’

“He had contact with the knee and felt something in the bone,” said Guardiola. “He has to stop for four or five weeks. He had something (surgery) to clean the knee.”

Spanish midfielder Rodrigo, meanwhile, was substituted during our Champions League group home game with Atalanta in midweek with a hamstring complaint.

The boss said he was hoping that the 23-year-old, who has made a big impact since joining the Club from Atletico Madrid in the summer, could be able to return following November’s international break

“They told me after the international break he (Rodrigo) may be ready again,” Ped added.

The City manager also had warm words of praise for Raheem Sterling following the England international’s hat-trick against Atalanta in midweek.

It took Sterling’s tally of goals for the season to 12 – and Guardiola said it was further confirmation of the winger’s outstanding talent.

“I didn’t help him. All the credit is to him,” the City boss added.

“We talk as a group, the quality of everyone helps the rest of the players. The credit is to him and the rest of the players.

“Always we dream of players getting better, month by month, season by season. The player has to be willing, otherwise it’s impossible.”

The City manager also expressed his admiration for Villa following the Midlands club’s promotion to the Premier League this season and solid showing so far this term.

“Team spirit, their quality up-front. Wesley is an incredibly strong striker,” Guardiola added.

“They’re newly promoted and they’re getting good results. It looks like a good environment.”
