Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will assess the fitness of Gabriel Jesus, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva on Friday afternoon.

The trio were all left out of the squad that travelled to Lyon for Tuesday’s Champions League game due to injury.

Guardiola confirmed a decision on their involvement in this weekend’s match against Bournemouth will be made after the team’s final training session but says the Club’s medical staff have indicated Jesus is nearing a return.

He also said Kevin De Bruyne, who has been out since early November because of a knee injury, is also making good progress, but this weekend’s game comes too soon for the Belgian.

“I don’t know, we have a training in a few hours and we will assess and see how they are.

“I think he [De bruyne] is not ready, but soon he will be ready.

“Gabriel doctor says he is much better. Of course, he will play a lot of games.”

The festive period is likely to stretch City’s resources to the limit.

Tuesday’s game in Lyon was the first in a run of 13 matches in 44 days spanning three competitions.

Guardiola says he will make full use of his squad over the coming weeks and indicated Saturday’s game with Bournemouth could be an opportunity to rotate.

“Maybe [I will make changes], yeah, because it was a really tough game.

“The Champions League is always there and after this game we have another in three days and everybody deserves to play and will play.”
