The Blues increased the gap to 16 – at least for 24 hours – over Manchester United and while the City boss admits it is a great place to be, he knows his team cannot afford to take their foot off the gas, despite a health advantage.
“I cannot deny the distance to the next team,” said Pep. “Today it is 16, tomorrow it could be 13. There is still a lot to play for, but I don’t know what will happen.
“But yes, to have 72 points in February, it’s a lot. I would like to take that question after 38 games! We have a lot of injuries and in the next games if we get players back, it will be good.
“But so far, it’s been so good. We enjoy what we have done a lot, but we need to lift titles.”
Guardiola admitted if his team continue to play the way they have been, it will be hard to stop the Blues going on a lifting the Premier League crown.
Seven wins from the last 12 games would guarantee City ending in pole position.
“If we can keep this spirit for the rest of the season, for the other teams it will be tough,” said Pep.
“Today, in the first half we were not perfect. Leicester are so complicated. Especially Vardy, who is so dangerous.
“Against Burnley we missed a lot of chances but today we were there. We are strong at home. We feel comfortable here at home.”
And of course, the Catalan had special praise for four-goal Sergio Aguero adding: “When one guy scores four goals, he deserves all the credit. He fought, he played really well, and he scored goals.”
