Manchester City made it two wins from two with a 6-1 victory over Huddersfield on Sunday.

And Club journalist Rob Pollard has taken a look back at some of the game’s major talking points.

1Super Sergio

Sergio Aguero’s hat-trick saw him leapfrog Robin van Persie and move into tenth on the list of all-time leading Premier League goalscorers.

Incidentally, his nine Premier League hat-tricks is equal with former City striker Robbie Fowler and only bettered by the great Alan Shearer, who managed 11.

Huddersfield simply couldn’t handle his pace and movement. In fact, Aguero may feel disappointed he didn’t manage a couple more.

He now has 14 goals in his last eight league appearances at the Etihad. He’s in frighteningly good form and, as Pep Guardiola said afterwards, his condition is as good as it’s ever been.

Could this be his most prolific campaign yet?

2Silva service

Aguero’s hat-trick means he was rightly handed the man-of-the-match award – but David Silva’s performance deserves rich praise, too.

He was at his brilliant best; the central hub orchestrating all of City’s best attacking moments. He constantly wanted the ball, and it was he who dictated the tempo and style with which we played.

His free-kick was superb – a 25-yard bender that flew into the top corner – but it was ability to control the game that left a lasting impression. City’s beautiful football relies on his supreme qualities.

Playing in front of his young son Mateo, who is now healthy after being born prematurely, on his 250th Premier League appearance for City…this was a day to remember for El Mago.

3Nuanced Blues

City’s performance sent an ominous message to our rivals.

Not only did we score six goals and completely take apart a stubborn side who took a point from the Etihad just three months ago, we showed again that we have various systems we can employ in order to get the result we want.

Guardiola left Leroy Sane, Kyle Walker and Raheem Sterling on the bench, and went instead with a three-at-the-back formation. It saw us overload in midfield and dominate possession, with plenty of guile in central areas to unpick Huddersfield packed defence.

And with Benjamin Mendy in scintillating form, we still had quality deliveries from wide. Mendy’s running power and ability to crosses on from the byline has given City a new edge.

Park the bus at your peril.

4Ederson

This game was much more about collective brilliance than individual moments of quality, but the pass from Ederson for the opening goal deserves to be highlighted.

It was a laser-like 60-yard pass that landed right where Aguero wanted it on the edge of the 18-yard box, and the Argentine did the rest.

Ederson becomes the first City goalkeeper to assist a Premier League goal, and something tells me it won’t be his last. There isn’t another goalkeeper in English football showing the same kind of quality with his feet as Ederson.

5Goals galore

City have now scored 104 goals in 39 games at home under Guardiola in the Premier League.

It’s a staggering number and, one the evidence of what we saw on Sunday, it’s only going to get more impressive.
