City boss Pep Guardiola is working on deals for “three or four new players” ahead of the new season.
Facing the press ahead of the US tour derby against Manchester United at Houston’s NRG Stadium on Thursday, Guardiola revealed he hopes to add to his squad before the transfer window closes.
When asked specifically about the rumours over Real Madrid’s Brazilian right-back Danilo, Guardiola said: “We have options for players coming, but until the deal is done out of respect for the other clubs, I won’t say other things, but it’s one option that we have.”
When later pressed about speculation of Monaco full-back Benjamin Mendy, Guardiola added: “Same case as Danilo and other ones - we have targets and we see what happens. He’s a Monaco player so I’m quiet in my comments.”
Regardless of the actual names of the targets, Guardiola – who has already added Ederson, Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva to his squad this season – was keen to stress any signings are made with an eye to the long term.
“We are talking with three or four players - with the next three, four, five years in mind - they are young players. We will see.”
Thursday’s game against United will be the first time the sides have ever faced each other away from the UK.
Guardiola said: “These games are very important - I’ve never been to Houston before, but at end of the day it’s a derby and people want to see how we can play, try new things, and adjust.”
