Risa Shimizu became City’s second signing of the summer in July 2024, joining the Club from fellow WSL side West Ham United on a three-year deal.
A Japanese international, the 28-year-old full-back had enjoyed two successful seasons at the Hammers having first made a name for herself at Tokyo Verdy Beleza alongside City team-mate Yui Hasegawa.
During her time in Japan, she picked up an incredible 14 maor honours, while also being named in the Nadeshiko League’s Best Eleven in four consecutive seasons between 2017 and 2020.
Approaching 100 senior appearances for her country, Shimizu has featured at two separate World Cups and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
A combative full-back with excellent defensive instincts, Risa is equally adept in advanced areas and comfortable in possession.
She will wear the number two shirt during her time at the Club.
