Bio
17-year-old Gavin Bazunu was signed by Manchester City on 8th February 2019 after an impressive rise through the youth system at Shamrock Rovers, which saw him skip age groups and advance from their under-15s to the first team.
The 6”2 goalkeeper made his senior debut for the Shamrock Rovers at 16 years and 109 days, becoming their youngest ever debutant. Gavin then went on to win the Player of the Month awards for both June and July 2018 after a remarkable start to his senior career, in which he had four clean sheets in four as well as a brilliant penalty save against Cork City.
Following this run of form, Bazunu was then chosen for Shamrock’s Europa League qualifier against AIK Stockholm in July, where they unfortunately lost 2-1 in extra time.
Gavin has deservedly been capped several times by the Republic of Ireland at U21 level and his development has been accelerated further after making the move to City and playing for the Club’s EDS.
Gavin was picked as part of the first-team squad for the pre-season tour in Asia. Since then, he has continued to impress for the EDS in Premier League 2, while also playing throughout the Uefa Youth League campaign.
Gavin will spend the 2020/21 season on loan at Rochdale AFC
