A detailed match report, plus reaction from Gareth Taylor and players alike can be accessed soon after the full-time whistle, while highlights and a full-match replay, available on CITY+ and Recast, will be made available from 12pm on Monday 17 October.

Jill Scott presentation

The Club’s special presentation for Jill Scott, which was due to take place at our postponed game against Arsenal last month, will now be held prior to our Barclays Women’s Super League derby clash with Manchester United.

That match takes place at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 11 December, KO 12.30pm.

Further details on our plans to honour our legendary midfielder will be confirmed in due course.

Team news

The boss revealed in his pre-match press conference that Yui Hasegawa is close to making her City debut.

He also provided a positive update on the continued recoveries of defensive duo Ruby Mace and Alanna Kennedy, but the tie comes too soon for them to return to the fold.

Gareth Taylor preview

"Leicester are really difficult to platy against, you can see they made it very difficult [in their recent match against] Everton by coming out and engaging, not blocking up as much as we anticipated.

"We need to be ready for a tough game, but it’s about focusing on what we do.

"We always feel like we’re able to score goals. We’re looking forward to the challenge."

Previous meeting

City took a huge step towards UEFA Women's Champions League qualification with a 4-0 win over Leicester in last season's encounter.

Goals from Caroline Weir, Lauren Hemp, Julie Blakstad and Alex Greenwood sealed a comprehensive victory at the Academy Stadium in April 2022.

With just three matches remaining, it moved Gareth Taylor's side above Manchester United into third place on goal difference/goals scored with a game in hand.

Last time out

City were edged out by Chelsea in our most recent outing.

Goals in either half from Fran Kirby and Maren Mjelde were enough to hand the hosts all three points despite a spirited display from Gareth Taylor's side.

  • Manchester City won both of their WSL meetings with Leicester City, scoring four goals in each victory (4-1 away, 4-0 home).
  • Leicester have conceded eight goals in their two Women’s Super League matches against Man City – they’ve only conceded more against Chelsea (11) and Arsenal (9).
  • Manchester City have won seven of their last eight home Women’s Super League matches (D1), scoring 30 goals and conceding just three across this run.
  • Gareth Taylor's side have scored at least four goals in each of their last four home WSL games, the longest ever run in the competition’s history.
