De Bruyne and Aguero target Premier League records

With one week to go until the resumption of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign, attentions turn to final standings and potential records set to be smashed.

Not for the first time, Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero both stand to rewrite the history books.

As ever, Kun is hunting Premier League glory, chasing more goalscoring accolades. Having bagged 16 goals this season, he moved up to fourth in the all-time highest scorers list (overtaking Thierry Henry to become the league's most prolific foreign goalscorer) and broke Alan Shearer’s hat-trick record with his terrific treble at Aston Villa in January.

Seven more Sergio strikes will equal Andy Cole’s all-time record of 187, lifting our South American star to joint-third, and four more will emulate Wayne Rooney’s record for the most Premier League goals for a single club (183).

Kun’s sweet 16 this season sees the Argentine ace currently sit three goals behind Leicester’s Jamie Vardy (19) in the race for the Golden Boot with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (17) also just in front.

Meanwhile, De Bruyne is on course to regain his Playmaker of the Season title, leading the assist charts with 16 first-class creations – four ahead of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Riyad Mahrez sits third with eight and David Silva joint-fourth with seven.

Our brilliant Belgian is the only player in Premier League history to have created 15 assists in three separate seasons and with four more (with 10 games of this season remaining), he would break his own record and equal the highest number of assists ever registered in a Premier League campaign, levelling Thierry Henry’s tally of 20 from 2002/03.

And who would bet against De Bruyne taking top spot with five – or more?

A creative genius, the midfield maestro also leads the way for the number of Through Balls crafted (23) in 2019/20 and has the second-best crossing stats with 244 deadly deliveries.

Elsewhere, our super Spaniard Silva, who has registered 90 assists in his Premier League career, will overtake Steven Gerrard and Dennis Bergkamp with five more, moving into fifth spot in the all-time records table.

Summer recruit Rodrigo has also tallied the second-highest number of Premier League passes with 1,995, while Ederson is one of four goalkeepers to have preserved nine clean sheets (of City’s ten overall) – two shy of first-placed Burnley shot-stopper Nick Pope.

In terms of Club stats, City will not hit the heights of the sensational Centurions and Fourmidables campaigns of course, but Pep Guardiola’s men currently sit top of the goalscoring table with 68 strikes – two more than Liverpool.

The reigning Champions also boast the highest number of passes for the 2019/20 campaign, totalling 18,926, and crosses (718).

As we ready ourselves for the resumption of 'the business end' of the season, City sit second in the table – four points ahead of Leicester, nine ahead of Chelsea and 12 ahead of fifth-placed Manchester United.
