Guardiola: My players are focused on winning matches
Pep Guardiola says his players are totally focused on finishing the season as strongly as possible - starting at Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.

City are currently eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table with six matches remaining as we chase our third title in four seasons.

On Sunday, we have a Carabao Cup final against Tottenham final to look forward to and we have also qualified for the semi-final of the Champions League where we will face PSG.

And despite the focus around the proposed European Super League dominating the headlines, Guardiola says he has no doubts his players will be focused solely on securing silverware between now and the end of the season.

I am pretty sure the players will be ready like they have been,” he said.

“In this business we have, the most honest and best are the players. The rest...the only ones we can trust to make us happy and enjoy good moments in our lives are the players.

“It’s a business, of course, but there’s a lot of feeling behind.

“But the Champions League, of course you have to improve. A long time ago when I started playing football just the champions played the Champions League. Just one team. Now we have four.

“Now the competition is much better than before. Okay, we play more games.

“Maybe in the future there’s another way to play this competition. Society goes forward and intentions are completely different.

“But we have to create it altogether. And altogether you have to agree that when you play on the field and beat the opponents, you deserve to be there. If not, you have to improve.

“If not, it’s another sport, another game, and that cannot be possible.”

City travel to Villa Park tomorrow knowing three points will edge us closer to being crowned champions.

Indeed, we need 11 points from our remaining six matches to regain the title.

It’s crunch time in our season and the boss says focus is key as we go into a series of finals.

“My thoughts in the last hours was a little bit more in this subject [the proposed Super League], like all the people in world football - but at the same time I have to work on Aston Villa,” he said.

“It’s absolutely a final for us, then a final against Tottenham and after the Champions League.

“We spoke altogether – the players spoke together. We have ahead of us six weeks and we play for all the season and for sure we are not going to be distracted when we are there.”
