The Portuguese midfielder senses a determination between his team-mates and feels City have returned to action with a new desire after the disappointment of last season.
Pep Guardiola’s injury-hit side endured a tough start to the new campaign, winning just one of our opening three Premier League games, but, having recorded back to back wins over Arsenal and Porto, Bernardo feels we are back to our best.
“I think [the mood] is good,” he said ahead of the trip to West Ham United.
“Everyone knows that last season was a bit disappointing for us the way it went, especially the ending. It's a new season for us, everyone is very hungry again.
“The first few games were tough for us because we have plenty of injuries in the team and it wasn't easy to come back after the holidays.
“The team is back at it, we are good, we have just won two games in a row, so the mood is good inside the dressing room.”
Whilst several players remain out injured for City, the squad has been boosted by the return of Sergio Aguero, who is fit again after four months out recovering from knee surgery.
“Everyone knows how important Sergio Aguero is for us,” added the midfielder.
“He’s one of the best players in the history of the club. The top scorer ever at Manchester City, a very influential guy in the dressing room.
"To have him back in the squad is a massive help for us.”
City face West Ham in Saturday’s early kick-off and go into the game with history on our side.
We are unbeaten in 11 games against the Hammers stretching back to 2016, though David Moyes' side have recorded some impressive results in recent weeks.
They recorded comfortable wins over Wolves and Leicester City before a stirring fightback against Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday.
The East London outfit have certainly played their part in the glut of goals in the early part of the Premier League campaign and Bernardo conceded it is difficult to know what to expect from teams this season.
“Every game is different, every season is different,” said the 26-year-old.
“From the start of the season, we can tell the results in the Premier League are very unpredictable.
“We need to work really hard in every game to win the three points. It's not going to be different against West Ham. They are a very good team, we play away from home, it's never easy.
“We have to keep doing our job, stay focus, go for it and win the three points.”
