MCWFC v Chelsea Ladies: Your City needs you

Manchester City Women's Steph Houghton has urged all City fans to show their support at the upcoming Continental Cup semi-final against Chelsea Ladies.

The skipper, who captained England Women to victory in their crucial Women's World Cup qualifier against Wales, believes a vocal home crowd could prove to be the difference as Nick Cushing's side bid to reach their first final in their debut season in the top flight.

"If you haven’t bought your tickets for the semi-final, I’d encourage you to do so," she asserted. "We need you!

"If you're a Manchester City supporter, it's important to show your support all the teams - whether it's the first-team, Elite Development Squad, Academy or the Women's team.

"Of course, as our first semi-final, it's a massive game for us. We want to go and perform well and ultimately, win. Hopefully, it will be the first of many that we'll be involved in.

"If the supporters can get down and spur us on, that will give us that little bit extra as we walk out onto the pitch.

"It's a proud moment when you hear that wall of noise before kick-off and it drives us to succeed.

"When you know there are thousands of supporters on your side, backing you, it gives you an edge - especially if the away team is on top because it can change the momentum in some ways.

"Having that support behind you is a massive factor and as a player, I can say it's been great that we've had such fantastic support so far this season. I hope it can continue."

Admission for the clash at Ewen Fields, Hyde is priced at just £4 for adults, £3 for over-65s and 16-21 year-olds and £2 for under-16s. Tickets can be purchased online at tickets.mcfc.co.uk or at the Etihad Stadium Box Office.

Cityzens members can redeem Ticket Points upon purchase.

Kick-off is at 2pm on Sunday 7 September. Bring your flags, scarves, inflatables and singing voices.

We look forward to seeing you cheer the Women on to the final.
