It is a huge blow for the City defender, who won a place in Tite’s squad after being a regular in Pep Guardiola’s title-winning side last season.
The Daily Mail report: “Brazil defender Danilo has been ruled out of the rest of the World Cup after injuring his ankle in training.
“The Brazilian soccer federation says the Manchester City right-back suffered a ligament injury in his left ankle during the team's training session in Kazan on Thursday, a day before Brazil plays Belgium in the quarter-finals.
“The federation said tests confirmed the player will not be able to recover in time to play again during the tournament in Russia.”
Elsewhere, John Stones says he is happy Colombia have been sent packing after the fun and games witnessed in England’s Round of 16 clash.
The City defender wasn’t impressed with the South Americans’ tactics, though England eventually emerged as winners after a penalty shoot-out.
ITV Sport carry the story: ‘The game was so strange, probably the dirtiest team I've ever come up against, Stones said.
‘That's in respect of when we won the penalty, surrounding the referee, pushing the referee, the headbutt that you've all seen, scuffing the penalty spot, a lot of off-the-ball things you probably haven't heard about. All the sort of things that you don't really hear in a football match.
‘That's down to their players, it's their image and how they've represented their country. Some things I hadn't even seen, like the incident with Raheem and one of their staff. I've never seen a game like this before and how they behaved. I thought there could have been several red cards.’
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail (via the MEN), suggest another City defender may consider switch his allegiances after a surprising World Cup omission.
They write: “Aymeric Laporte could play his international football for Spain rather than his native France after being snubbed for the 2018 World Cup.
“Spain are reportedly keen to hand an international debut to the Manchester City defender after their campaign in Russia came to a disastrous end.
“After sacking manager Julen Lopetegui on the eve of the tournament, Spain won just one of their four matches and were knocked out on penalties by the hosts in the round of 16.
“Manchester Evening News report that Spain's aging squad - not least at centre back, with Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos unlikely to still be first choice by 2022 - means they are on the lookout for alternatives.
“Laporte, 24, remains an option, despite having represented France at youth level all the way up to 19 caps for the under-21s.
“Despite being the world's most expensive defender after joining City from Athletic Bilbao last January for £57m, Laporte has never made a senior international appearance.”
Newly-promoted Macclesfield Town have been training at the CFA this week and our League Two neighbours have clearly appreciated it as their website reported: “Macclesfield Town were in illustrious surroundings this afternoon, as they continued their pre-season schedule at Manchester City's Academy which is situated within their Etihad campus.
“Under the shadows of the Etihad Stadium itself, Mark Yates put his side through their paces as they revelled in the world class facilities of the Premier League champions.
“Drenched in hot sunshine the lads were led by Assistant Managers Danny Whitaker and Neil Howarth, before Mark took over for the bulk of the session.
“Despite pre-season being only four days old, the squad looked sharp and confident as they prepare for the first friendly at Ashton United next Saturday.
“Everyone clearly enjoyed the experience and we would like to thank our friends at Manchester City for their wonderful hospitality.”
You’re very welcome!
Lastly, a transfer snippet.
Fox Sports believe the Blues are close to securing a deal for one of Melbourne City’s prized assets as they report: “Daniel Arzani is reportedly close to signing with Manchester City in an Aaron Mooy-style deal, but the City Football Group are fighting off interest from Italian giants Juventus.
“It comes after reports the Turin club are close to landing superstar Ronaldo in the shock transfer of the summer.
“Currently contracted to Melbourne City, 19-year-old Arzani is expected to sign a three-year deal with parent club Manchester and, as was the case with Mooy, be immediately loaned out.
“The City Football Group owns clubs in America, Australia, Spain, Japan, Uruguay and England.”
