Bravo: Make the experience count

Claudio Bravo has urged City’s youngsters to make the most of their experience on the Club’s pre-season tour of the US.

With the majority of Pep Guardiola's senior stars enjoying a well-deserved break following their World Cup exploits, the Catalan named a youthful and largely inexperienced squad for the International Champions Cup tournament trip, in which the Blues have faced quality opposition in the form of Dortmund and Liverpool, with Bayern Munich still to play.

Bravo has witnessed first-hand the hunger amongst the budding Blues in the squad and hopes his teenage teammates have acquired the maximum benefit from their opportunity.

“It’s important to be at this level,” he stated. “It has a lot of value because we have a lot of young guys with a lot of potential.

“I think we have to push them to take advantage of this situation and open the door for the future.

“They shouldn’t view these games as friendlies – they should see that they have an open door to compete on a bigger stage.”

Bravo also declared he is more than happy to provide guidance to aid the youngsters’ development.

“The bigger idea is to always help,” he added. “It would be selfish on our part – those who have more experience and have had a successful soccer career – not to.”

The shot-stopper, who starred in last season’s Carabao Cup road to glory, has savoured a restful summer.

Though it was unusual for Bravo not to have performed on international duty, the Chilean says he has relished the chance to recharge the batteries ahead of the new campaign.

“I’m happy to have had a normal vacation,” he continued. “I think it’s always good and beneficial.

“I had a lot of intense years that hadn’t allowed me to have that type of vacation and I think it’s really good.

“I learned a lot (from the World Cup) but unfortunately, I wasn’t there. It was a lesson for me and my country but I don’t think it’s necessary to talk about it now because we’re on a new stage with our Club.

“Now, we’re in a pre-season that has also been a first for me because I haven’t had this type of pre-season before.

“It’s also beneficial but it’s always the same idea to try and do the most you can and contribute to our team and have the most success possible.”
