But 63 minutes into the game at the De Kuip and he’d bagged his fist brace thanks to two towering headers.
The first, which came inside two minutes, was the fastest goal City have ever scored in the Champions League, and his second was an emphatic bullet header that gave Brad Jones no chance.
It was a brilliant night for Stones and City. We were 3-0 up inside 25 minutes in one of the most one-sided Champions League games in living memory, with Stones looking confident and assured at the back and a huge threat from set pieces.
