Fernandinho doesn’t score often… but when he does, they tend to be worth the wait!
His goal against Stoke in October perhaps isn’t the most memorable aspect of that day (the 7-2 scoreline rightly took the plaudits!) but it earned its deserved recognition eventually, claiming the Nissan Goal of the Season title.
With 106 Premier League goals to choose from, including stunning efforts from the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero, City fans were spoilt for choice when it came to voting – but the Brazilian’s 25-yard screamer received the prize.

City raced into a three-goal lead before the half-hour mark, thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus, Sterling and David Silva, before the Potters clawed themselves back into the contest with goals either side of the break.
Jesus restored our cushion and Fernandinho ended all hopes of a Stoke comeback with a terrific thunderbolt, which cannoned in off the crossbar.
The Blues went on to score two more, courtesy of Sane and Bernardo Silva, but Ferna’s was undoubtedly the pick of the bunch.
They say the early bird catches the worm and City’s storming start to the 2017/18 campaign ensured the Blues put themselves in poll position to clinch a third Premier League title.
Our previous two title successes had heralded final day drama, with THAT game against Queens Park Rangers and a 2-0 victory over West Ham, but there would be no nerves on the last day of Pep Guardiola’s second season in charge, as the Blues claimed the crown with five games remaining!
That impressive feat equalled Manchester United’s record for the earliest title win in 2000/01 and ironically, was gained due to the Reds’ shock 1-0 home defeat to West Brom!
City of course, could have bettered the accomplishment by beating Jose Mourinho’s side the week before… but considering how the season panned out, we don’t mind sharing the record!
