TROUBLE MAKERS: Steph Houghton and Izzy Christiansen caused controversy in a video feature for England

The rib-tickling and the thought-provoking... What's caught our attention on the world wide web this week?

In our latest edition of Things We Love, Club Journalist Caroline Oatway rounds up the best of the Internet's offerings from the past seven days…

'Spoilt for choice'

With the City Football Academy nearing its second birthday, Simon Mullock of the Mirror has penned a piece on the positive impact of the investment. The article features quotes from Head of Academy Coaching Jason Wilcox, who says the talent is flourishing.

Writes Mullock: “The City Football Academy - to coin its official title - is a £200million state-of-the-art complex in which Pep Guardiola’s squad hone their expertise alongside more than 450 young hopefuls keen to snatch the sky-blue shirts from the stars’ backs.

“In the 21 months since it opened, players such as Kelechi Iheanacho, Manu Garcia, Bersant Celina, Angelino, Cameron Humphreys, Aleix Garcia, Tosin Adarabioyo, David Faupala, Brandon Barker, Pablo Maffeo and Brahim Diaz have all made their first-team debuts.

“Over the coming years, City expect that trickle of talent to become a torrent.”

A German Team

Social media banter between football clubs is becoming more and more common, and no team loves to get involved more than Borussia Monchengladbach (we should know!)

This week, during their Champions League visit to Celtic, they stumbled across this pub sign, advertising the game in Scotland – only the landlord had given up on attempting to spell ‘Monchengladbach’ and settled for ‘A German Team’.

Well, the joke backfired as Borussia won 2-0 at Celtic Park, prompting the German outfit to really rub the salt in – they’ve even changed their Twitter name!

Friends Reunited

There were plenty of kind words shared between Pep Guardiola and Ronald Koeman before and after Everton’s visit to the Etihad Stadium, including this heart-warming Instagram post from @pepteam.

Sporty

A shameless plug, we admit… but just look at this Sport Poly T-shirt, available at the City Store. Sharp!

SHARP: Cheer on City with this Sport Poly T-Shirt which features a reflective printed crest for a loyal look. Built with 100% polyester, you can enjoy complete comfort when you wear this tee.

How Video Games are Changing the Way Soccer is Played

EA SPORTS FIFA – the most successful sports video game franchise in history – released its latest edition of the much-loved football game last month.

Writing for the New York Times, Rory Smith analyses how the virtual play of the game has helped alter the real-life version, influencing professional players and front offices.

An interesting one! Have a read of that here.

Guess the Lioness

There was controversy in the England Women camp this week – and two City stars were responsible!

Starring in a new video feature in which the players play Guess Who with their international teammates, Steph Houghton and Izzy Christiansen took the challenge – but there was cheating in the ranks, as Izzy forgot the rules. You can’t mention the chosen players’ name, club or position.

This led to a Twitter poll to see whether the Blues’ joint-top score should stand. They’ve just about gotten away with it!

Kick Like a Girl

Keeping with the Lioness theme… Nice finish, Jill Scott!

Bounce, bounce

Everyone loves a caption competition. This is just brilliant! (Sorry, Pablo Zabaleta!)

Derby debut delight

If you’re going to score your first goal for a club, you might as well do it in a derby – and you might as well do it like this… Take a bow, Tim Cahill!

Best dressed?

No words needed…
