Sterling: What a game to be part of!

STERLING WORK: Raheem Sterling opened the scoring, thanks to Leroy Sane's excellent assist

STERLING WORK: Raheem Sterling opened the scoring, thanks to Leroy Sane's excellent assist

Raheem Sterling said he and his Man City team-mates never gave up hope as they staged a stunning Champions League comeback to beat Monaco 5-3 at the Etihad Stadium.

The England international scored the opening goal of a brilliant last 16 first leg encounter but then saw Monaco hit back to take a 3-2 lead early in the second half.

However, City never stopped pressing forward and after a brace from Sergio Aguero had helped draw Pep Guardiola’s men level, the hosts then staged a magnificent finale, scoring twice more in a pulsating last 10 minutes through John Stones and Leroy Sane to secure a famous win.

"It was good to be a part of. It was end to end stuff and Monaco gave us a tough game and pushed us all the way,” said Sterling.

“We got the win and that's the most important thing today.

"It's always difficult to go down but the boys did really well.

“We played our football and stuck to our game and it worked out in the end.”

However, Sterling has a word of caution as he looked ahead to the second leg in the Principality in three weeks’ time.

“At the end of the day we need to tighten up at the back as well," the winger added.
