It was all eyes on the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City faced Spurs on Saturday evening and so unsurprisingly, the post-match talk has rumbled on to Monday.
Leroy Sane’s impressive performance features in our round up of this morning’s back pages, and as it’s January, there’s yet more transfer news on a reported City target.
Speaking to journalists after the game, Pep told the Manchester Evening News: “I'm so happy with the performance of Leroy.
"I encourage him to keep going at that level because he has special qualities for us and he made a good performance.
"If we are able to look at him a little bit more he can be more dangerous but it's OK. I'm happy for him, so happy."
After the weekend’s performance it certainly seems that 21-year-old has found his feet in the Premier League and with another goal under his belt he’s told journalists he’s hoping to kick on in the Blue shirt.
ESPN’s Jonathan Smith carries the quotes, which read: "I had a repetition of a previous injury I had, my right hamstring and I needed a couple of weeks off just to get it right.
"But I got back in the team and that's now two goals in two games for me. It has been stop-start, but it was important to get a rest rather than rush back too quickly.
"I feel at home here in Manchester now, and things are looking bright for the future weeks and months."
Meanwhile, today’s transfer rumour sees a familiar name once again linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium.
It’s the turn of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl to be named on City’s transfer shortlist by journalists.
Bleacher Report have the story from Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, which states Dortmund may be “forced to say goodbye” to the youngster.
“Borussia Dortmund are reportedly readying themselves for the departure of star midfielder Julian Weigl, with Manchester City said to be pressing ahead with their interest in the player,” writes Matt Jones.
“For City boss Pep Guardiola, Weigl would be a perfect acquisition. Not only is he a fine player with a high ceiling, the German has so many stylistic qualities that would improve this City side.”
That’s all for today, Blues. We’ll be back again tomorrow with more City-centric news.
