Loan watch: Mooy and Glendon lead promotion bids

LOAN RANGERS: How our boys are getting on across Europe

LOAN RANGERS: How our boys are getting on across Europe

With winter breaks under way across Europe, it was up to Manchester City’s loanees on British shores to impress over the festive period.

Australian midfielder Aaron Mooy and academy graduate George Glendon have particularly impressed for their respective clubs, Huddersfield Town and Fleetwood.

Firstly, Mooy was an ever present for the Terriers as they made it seven matches unbeaten in the Championship, where they sit fourth.

The 26-year-old’s dynamic midfield running has been crucial for David Wagner’s side and has earned him rave reviews from across the league, not least his own coaches.

Huddersfield man Andy Hughes told Fox Sports: “I think if he wants, he could be a top Premier League player.

“For me, he can play at the top level. I’ve been lucky enough to work with players that have played in the Premier League and he’s got more than them — I really believe that.”

Uwe Rosler’s Fleetwood Town are aiming to reach the Championship this season and George Glendon is playing a major role.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder, a lifelong City fan, won December’s Player of the Month at the Highbury Stadium as he helped them to a nine match unbeaten run in League One.

Back up to the Premier League and it’s been a quiet Christmas for Wilfried Bony, who made only a fleeting appearance in Stoke’s loss to Liverpool before sitting out the defeat to Chelsea. The Ivorian will now travel to Gabon for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Jason Denayer played the full 90 minutes in Sunderland’s Boxing Day defeat at Manchester United but has since been ruled out with a hamstring injury.

North of the border, Patrick Roberts was a second half introduction to the New Year’s Eve Old Firm derby and played a crucial role in Celtic's second in the 2-1 victory over Rangers.

Domestic football returns in Spain this week with Copa del Rey fixtures before the league is back in Holland and Italy this weekend.

That's all for this week's loan watch, we'll have more of the same next week on mancity.com!
