Clichy: Roberts is a quality player

QUALITY: Gael Clichy was impressed with Patrick Roberts' display

Gael Clichy says he is pleased to see Patrick Roberts doing well at Celtic.

While the Frenchman may not have been so thrilled to watch his opponent open the scoring in the 1-1 Champions League draw at the Etihad Stadium, he spoke of his admiration for the winger.

“He is a quality player,” Clichy stated. “He has gone on loan to express that and we are happy he is doing well.

“Tonight, we would have liked to get the three points but overall, it was a good game.”

Asked whether he felt City should have been awarded at least one penalty, he replied: “It’s one of those nights where the referee decides.

“We haven’t been lucky in recent games with referees’ decisions.

“Tonight, we could have had a penalty but I think it was a fair draw, even though we created so many chances and could have won the game.”

City completed their group campaign with nine points, collecting two wins. With progression already secured at Borussia Monchengladbach on Matchday Five, Clichy admitted the Blues sought more than they gained, but were satisfied with their achievement.

“We’re through so of course, we’re happy,” he continued. “But a team like us should expect more.

“It was a tough group but the main objective was to get through. It was job done.

“We’re through so now we can look forward to the next game and carry on the season.”
