Kelechi in a confident mood

IN THE BANK: Kelechi logs some miles in the first session of the season.

Kelechi Iheanacho believes City will come away from Stoke with a positive result.

The forward, who signed a contract extension to 2021 on Thursday, expects a difficult test against a side the Blues have a poor away record against but insists Pep Guardiola's men can continue their impressive start to the new season.

"I think Stoke is a very strong side," he told ManCity.com. "They are a very, very strong team, especially at home.

"They're going to come out to play but we have a good squad and a good manager - everything it takes to beat them at their home.

"We are going there to win so we need to focus and keep working hard, defending and attacking.

"I think we will come away from Stoke with something."

The last time City faced the Potters marked a memorable day for Iheanacho.

The youngster bagged a brace and won a penalty for the Blues in a 4-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.

Though Saturday's encounter may not bring identical fortunes for the Nigerian starlet, he hopes the result will be similar.

"It was a very good thing for me - to score two past them and get a penalty," he reflected.

"We don't know what will happen [on Saturday] but I think we're going to have a good game against them."

On the subject of his contract extension, the striker was asked what he wishes to achieve in the coming years.

He replied: "2021 is a really long way away so we don't know what we will achieve but we hope for better things to come. We'll just wait and see and expect good things.

“I can't express how I'm feeling! I'm very happy to sign my new deal for this Club. I'm excited.

"My family are so happy and it is going to change their lives I think. In my state and my country, people will be so happy as well.

"I'm pleased and they will be pleased for me for working well to get here."
