FATE KNOWN: City's Champions League opponents revealed

FATE KNOWN: City's Champions League opponents revealed

City have learned their UEFA Champions League fate.

Pep Guardiola's men will take on Steaua Bucharest for the right to contest the group stages for a sixth-successive season.

The most successful Romanian club in history, Steaua reached the play-off rounds with victory over Sparta Prague and play in the 55,000 capacity Arena Nationala.

Managed by Laurentiu Reghecampf, Bucharest finished as runners-up in Romania's Liga I last season and last won the title in 2014/15.

Our opponents have some serious Champions League pedigree, having won the European Cup once back in 1985/86 and they also finished as runners-up in 1988/89.

Steaua will be aiming to reach the group stages for the first time since the 2013/14 season when they finished bottom of a group containing Basel, Chelsea and Schalke, ending Group E with three points.

The first leg will be played away from home on 16 August, with the return match at the Etihad Stadium on 24 August and you can follow all the build-up on mancity.com.

Ticket details to follow in due course.
