Alternative End of Season Awards: Part One

VINNIE VIDI VICI: Kompany takes one of our gongs... but which?

VINNIE VIDI VICI: Kompany takes one of our gongs... but which?

You won’t find these gongs at any club end-of-season awards ceremony!

@markbooth_mcfc takes a sideways glance back at the 2015/16 season that was…

The Nostradamus award…

Some Might Say that Noel Gallagher had a sneak peek at The Masterplan when he predicted the result of the Capital One Cup final in March...

Strangest press conference question…

Pablo Zabaleta wasn’t the only one who was confused when one journalist in Kyiv asked him why he was looking so sad…

The “… but City won’t care” goal of the season…

AKA: Best fluke. It took a late, late winner to down Swansea in December – Iheanacho was credited with the strike but he knew very little about it!

Slip of the season...

Bruno Zuculini takes a tumble in this behind-closed-doors friendly against Burnley in September but it worked out pretty well in the end…

Meaningless goal of the season…

Actually, “meaningless goal” of the season sounds harsh – let’s go with “best consolation goal”. There’s a few contenders for this one, including Kelechi’s screamer against Southampton at St Mary’s and Yaya’s against Arsenal at the Emirates but Sergio takes this one with his thunderbolt in the 4-1 defeat to Liverpool.

Stripping away the all-important context, it’s one of our very best goals of the season… - just skip this video to 56 seconds to spare yourselves any pain...

“Megs” of the season…

What a way to mark your comeback – after six months out, Samir Nasri bursts forward 60 yards to be in the perfect position to slot through James Chester's legs for the winning goal against West Brom in April.

Individual performance of the season…

*Straightens tie* A serious one... Honourable mentions must go to Kelechi Iheanacho for his hat-trick against Aston Villa, Fernandinho's all-action display in Seville and KDB against PSG but there can only be one winner and it has to be Sergio Aguero’s stunning five-goal haul against the Magpies in October.

Best (wrongly) disallowed goal…

It should have been his second goal for City as he was a good yard onside but Kelechi Iheanacho was flagged off against Bournemouth, meaning his delightful dink over the goalkeeper didn’t stand.

Cruel. Skip to 11:08 for the goal that should have been.

The “best first touch evs” award…

That man again… another gong for “The Kid” – Kelechi’s first touch against Crystal Palace on his second 89th minute substitute appearance for the club was worth three points all on its own…

Foot in mouth award…

We’ll hold our hands up for this one – what were we thinking!?

The Bernardo Corradi celebration award…

You don’t get many rehearsed goal celebration routines with City but, for pure passion alone, Vincent Kompany’s jump onto The Hawthorns hoardings in front of the away supporters on the opening night of the season.

Honourable mention to Aleks Kolarov for his knee slide and fist pump against Everton.

vinny

The “Downtown” training ground award…

Gael Clichy’s strike from wayyyyyy out takes this one… well worth a revisit…

The "Cat got your tongue" award…

Fight, flight or freeze? Fab goes for the latter when on camera with KDB…

The “instant hero status unlocked” award…

As a lesson in “standing by your man”, Manuel’s decision to stick with Willy Caballero for the Capital One Cup final was repaid handsomely.

Burn of the Year…

You won’t need more than one guess on which our most-watched press conference of the season was.

Manuel Pellegrini’s February presser where he revealed he would be leaving the club in February, after which it was revealed that Pep Guardiola would be his successor, has been one of the major talking points of the season.

How do you follow that press conference? Answer…

Join us on Thursday for the concluding part of our alternative end of season awards party/gala/extravaganza!
