City stars set for a busy summer

City could have eight players representing their country at Euro 2016 which starts next month in France.

Though the provisional squads don’t guarantee a place, every player selected for their country’s final preparation matches has an excellent opportunity to make the final cut.

England have included Joe Hart, Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph for the upcoming friendlies with Turkey, Australia and Portugal.

Sterling and Delph both picked up injuries towards the end of the season but have been regular fixtures in Roy Hodgson’s squad so have a great chance of making the plane – their contribution in the friendly matches may be the key.

David Silva has been included in Spain’s provisional 25-man squad and it would be a major surprise if he is left out – Silva will be hoping to win his 100th cap for La Roja at the Euros having accumulated 96 so far.

Hosts France have named their 23-man squad with Eliaquim Mangala and Bacary Sagna included for Les Bleus.

Gael Clichy’s strong end to the Premier League campaign hasn’t resulted in a call-up and Samir Nasri’s international exile continues.

Vincent Kompany’s injury ruled him out of contention for Belgium’s squad, but Jason Denayer and Kevin De Bruyne will represent the Red Devils in France.

The other major international tournament this summer sees the Copa Americano Centenario in the United States.

Mystifyingly, Fernandinho has not been included in Brazil’s squad for the tournament, despite an excellent campaign for City.

Argentina have included four City players in their 39-man provisional squad with Sergio Aguero, Nicolas Otamendi, Martin Demichelis and Pablo Zabaleta included, though Zaba may miss the tournament due to the injury that kept him out of the Blues’ final matches of the campaign.

It’s unclear whether any City players will be taking part in the summer Olympics in Brazil, though Kelechi Iheanacho is tipped to feature in Nigeria’s 21-man squad bound for Rio.

Brazil and Argentina are also taking part in the 16-team tournament which begins 3 August and ends on 20 August.

The 1-1 draw at Swansea has all-but mathematically assured City of the fourth Champions League spot, but taking the final berth means the Blues will have to play a qualifying round to reach the group stage of the competition.
