Goals from Bill Spurdle and Roy Clarke ensured the Blues would remain four points off the top of the table. The team went on to win promotion by finishing runners-up to Preston North End, who won the title.

1998

On this day in 1998 City were facing relegation to the third tier of English football for the first time in the Club’s history.

Manager Frank Clarke was sacked having won just a third of his games in charge. City had a promising start to the season, but a poor run of form saw them slip down the league and Clarke was dismissed after a 1-0 defeat at home to Bury.

2012

On this day in 2012 the City U18s recorded a 4-1 win away to Swindon Town in the FA Youth Cup. Jordi Hiwula, Devante Cole and Adam Drury were on target for City, plus the unfortunate Swinndon defender Aaron Oakley, who scored an own goal. A 40-yard stunner from Robins full-back Robert Murden gave Swindon some consolation.
