Looking back through the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City's history...

1957

Jack Dyson bags a hat-trick in a 5-1 victory over Charlton Athletic.

The Oldham-born forward, who went on to become a first-class cricketer for Lancashire, spent four seasons with the Blues, netting 26 goals in 62 games - one of those a strike in the 1956 FA Cup final triumph.

Club legend Bobby Johnstone, who was inducted into the Scottish FA's Hall of Fame, and Paddy Fagan also found the net against the Addicks.

The Blues finished 18th in Division One that season.

1991

Mark Ward nets a brace in a 2-0 victory over Sheffield United.

In a game which also saw Blades "hard man" Vinnie Jones sent off for two bookable offences (one within the first five seconds), the Liverpudlian midfielder scored either side of half-time.

Ward converted David White's cross to open the scoring, before curling a beautiful effort into the top corner to secure the win.

The triumph ended the Blues' winless streak at home and helped player-manager Peter Reid's side to a fifth-place finish.

2009

Craig Bellamy reunites with Mark Hughes, joining City from West Ham on a four-year deal.

The Welshman, who had already played under his the boss at Blackburn and his national team, made his debut against one of seven former clubs, Newcastle, scoring the winner.

He soon became a first-team regular and fans' favourite, making 40 appearances and scoring 12 league goals.

In August 2010, he opted to sign for hometown club Cardiff on loan before joining Liverpool 12 months later.

2010

City claim advantage in the Carling Cup semi-final against United with a 2-1 first-leg victory.

The Blues came from behind to defeat their neighbours, courtesy of a Carlos Tevez double, gaining a slender lead to take back to Old Trafford a week later.

The striker, who had moved across the city to the Etihad Stadium the previous summer, silenced the taunts of the travelling fans with a goal in each half.

Alas, there would be no Wembley dream for the blue half of Manchester as the Reds emerged victorious in the second leg - but billed as one of the 'games that shook the Etihad', this encounter will live long in the memory, regardless.

2013

David Silva scores twice to hand City victory over Fulham and close the gap on league leaders United.

El Mago broke the deadlock after just 95 seconds, capitalising on a Mark Schwarzer's parry.

He doubled his tally on 69 minutes with a goal he helped create, latching onto Tevez's dummy and chipping over the goalkeeper.

The playmaker could have had a hat-trick moments later but fired wide.

In the end, a two-goal cushion was enough to see off the Cottagers.
