Academy Stadium set for Vieira’s final game

Patrick Vieira will take charge of City U19s for the final time against Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday afternoon.

The young Blues host their German counterparts at the Academy Stadium at 1pm in what will be Vieira’s last game as Head Coach before he takes up his new role at New York City FC in January.

City have already clinched a top-two finish and a win will see them progress into the last 16. A draw will also be enough to send them through into the round of 16, or if Sevilla fail to beat Juventus.

A defeat for the young Blues, coupled with a Sevilla win, will see City finish in 2nd place in Group D and will force into the play-offs where they would travel to one of the eight domestic Champions path second-round winners.

City tasted defeat for the first time on Match Day Five of the UEFA Youth League, going down 2-1 at the hands of Juventus.

A goal in each half from Grigoris Kastanos condemned Vieira’s side to defeat, despite Thierry Ambrose adding his fourth goal in four games.

City came out on top when the two sides met in late September in Germany. Ba-Muaka Simakala opened the scoring for Borussia in the first minute before second half goals from Will Patching and Aaron Nemane saw City maintain their 100% record.

Borussia are already out of the competition having won just one of their five games in the UEFA Youth League, losing three of them, and are playing for pride in Manchester tomorrow.

Their only win came against Juventus at home at the start of November with Tsiy-William Ndenge scoring a brace that day meaning the home side will have to keep him quiet if they want to secure all three points.

The German U19 international has scored three goals in the UEFA Youth League this season, with all three coming in November, and he will be looking to add to his tally before The Foals exit the competition.
