Jesus Navas says Fulham are City’s only immediate focus.
With the Blues facing two vital away games at Manchester United and Arsenal next week, talk of the derby and the visit to the Emirates is becoming more prominent as the matches approach.
But Navas says the only game that matters is the next one against the Premier League’s bottom club – and he expects the Cottagers to put up a stiff challenge at the Etihad on Saturday.
“We are not thinking about the Manchester derby, we are only focused on the Fulham game,” said the Spanish winger.
“This would be three very important points for us and when the game finishes then we will think about United.
“It is more difficult to play against teams that are fighting to avoid relegation because they defend very well and that playing style is the most difficult for us when they come and try to defend.
“But we did a good job last weekend at Hull and now we need to continue in the same manner against Fulham and in the games that follow.”
Navas scored at Craven Cottage in City’s 4-2 win before Christmas as the West Londoners pushed the Blues all the way in a thrilling game.
Though that match was entertaining and open, Navas thinks this encounter will be completely different.
“There are never two games that are exactly the same,” he said.
“I think it will be different to when we played them away because they are going to come here and try to frustrate us, stop us playing as well as we can do and get a result. So we need to be patient and wait for our opportunities.
“We are feeling very positive. I think we played a very complete game against Hull; we knew it was going to be difficult but happily we got the result we wanted.
“The team effort was the key in that game. It was very difficult with ten men, but the team showed that we want to keep fighting to win the title and it is important we continue to do that.”
