Fernandinho has predicted City’s Premier League clash with Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium will be an entirely different affair to the disappointing defeat in London earlier this season.

A Fernando Torres goal in the dying minutes of the game meant Jose Mourinho’s men collected all three points back in October, but the Brazilian believes it will be a whole new game on home soil.

“I think the whole team is preparing well for this game. It’s a very difficult game against a good team, but we will play at home and when you play at home you expect to win and we will try to do it again,” he said.

“I think when we played Chelsea in London we had a good performance, but we lost at the end of the match, but this is a new game and I’m sure it will be a completely different.

“Of course they have a very good manager and are a strong team with good players, but we are prepared and what happened there [in London] has to stay there. This is a new game, a new day and I hope it can be a new result which will be very good for us.”

The midfielder has played more minutes than any other City player so far this season and with the Blues still competing in all four competitions, he hopes this trend will continue.

“I think when you play more, you feel better. It’s very important because your body is working without problems, you keep going and it’s very good because your mind keeps going too,” he smiled.

“In Brazil we love to play, when you play more you feel better. If I can play every game, I will play every game!”

A win over Chelsea would see the Blues extend their lead at the top of the table after reaching the summit in mid-week following an emphatic 5-1 win over Spurs.

However, Fernandinho admits overcoming Jose Mourinho’s men is no easy task and that it’s too soon to think about winning his first Premier League title.

“I think against the big teams, you always have to be patient, you have to be careful because if you make one mistake they can make you pay,” he admitted.

“We saw that in London and we know that we have to be at our very best if we want to have a different result this time.

“I think it’s too early to talk about winning the league because we have a lot of games to play, but of course the target is to win the Premier League and also to win the Champions League and to win both cups.

“But we have to do it step by step, game by game and in the end we want to celebrate with our fans, our families and everybody.”
