City face Barcelona in the Champions League

City have been paired with Barcelona in the Champions League Round of 16.

The first leg will take place at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday 18 February and the second leg at the Camp Nou on Wednesday 12 March.

The 2010/11 European champions have won the trophy four times and this is the first time the two teams have met competitively.

Ticket details for this mouth-watering fixture that will pitch Sergio Aguero against Argentina international team-mate Lionel Messi will be released as soon as possible.

Yaya Toure will face his former employers for the first time in what it likely to be an emotional return to Spain. Yaya won the trophy with Barca in 2008/09, playing as a centre-half in the 2-0 win over Manchester United.

Barca, currently leading La Liga on goal difference from Atletico Madrid, will hope to have Lionel Messi fit for the Round of 16 clash - arguably the tie of the round.

The most recent meetings between City and Barcelona have been the Joan Gamper Trophy in 2009 where City beat the Spaniards 1-0 at the Camp Nou, and in 2003 when the Blues agains triumphed 2-1 in a friendly to mark the official opening of the City of Manchester Stadium.

City's director of football Txiki Begiristain said: "I think it will be a great match. Ours is a team with a lot of confidence especially after winning against the champions in Munich – that will give us a lot of confidence. Not just at home but away as well.

We have to be confident because of the way we are playing. We are showing that we can score in all matches. This is important in the Champions League

“We scored in Plzen, in Moscow, in Munich – it should give us confidence to play against a team who have been champions many times.

“Our manager knows perfectly Barcelona because he managed in Spain for a long time. In this sense, we are confident.

“I think the text messages will be flying between Manchester and Barcelona now between Sergio and Lionel! If you want to win the Champions League you have to beat the biggest teams, Barcelona are one of the biggest teams.”

The full draw is:

Manchester City v Barcelona
Olympiakos v Manchester United
AC Milan v Atletico Madrid
Bayer Leverkusen v Paris Saint-Germain
Galatasaray v Chelsea
Schalke v Real Madrid
Zenit St Petersburg v Borussia Dortmund
Arsenal v Bayern Munich
