America will come to a standstill on Sunday for the annual Super Bowl extravaganza and three members of the City squad can’t wait for it to get under way.
Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards and James Milner may be rubbing the sleep out of their eyes at Monday morning training as they will be burning the midnight oils to stay up and watch the Baltimore Ravens take on San Francisco 49ers for Super Bowl XLVII.
Lescott is City’s resident NFL expert, having taken a huge interest in the sport long before City went over to visit the Baltimore Ravens back in 2010.
"I'll definitely be watching, I tend to stay up as it's an entertainment event with the half time show,” Lescott beamed.
“I've met the big man himself, Ray Lewis and Ed Reed and I got some pictures.“I used to follow a player more than a team, Michael Vick from the Falcons, but I would say I'm more of a Ravens fan now."
Milner is another proponent of the game in the City ranks but he fancies the 49ers to see off the Ravens’ challenge at the New Orleans Superdome.
" I think it'll be a good game,” said Milner, “It's strange, when I ask people about football and say who do you support and they say I don't really have a team I just support the sport, I never understood that but that's how I am with the NFL.
“I like watching the games but don't really have a team.
“I think the 49ers will win it but it's going to be close. They're the favourites going in but with it being Ray Lewis' last game I don't think the Ravens want to let him down.
“I've seen clips of Lewis on the field and off the field. As a leader he seems unbelievable. He gets everyone going and it'll be a great if he signs off with the big one."
Richards refereed a quarter-back challenge between James and Joleon and admitted that NFL isn't his first love but he'll be keeping in touch with events in New Orleans.
"To be honest, I'm more of an NBA fan but it's a big weekend for the NFL and I'll be watching," Richards declared.
