Sergio Aguero has paid tribute to team-mate and Etihad Player of the Month Pablo Zabaleta.
The City striker, who has been ruled of the game against Arsenal on Sunday due to a hamstring injury, rates Zaba as one of the Blues’ most important players – and believes the Argentina defender can add to his tally of two goals this season.
“It¹s amazing how well Zaba is playing – he is so focused,” said Aguero.
He is one of our best players at City and one of the first names on the team sheet, playing every match. Until last weekend, Zaba had scored more goals than Messi this year!
...Kun on Pablo...
“He always tells me that he is going to score one goal per season, but this year I told him that he is going to score more goals and he has two so far so I‘ve been proved right. “
Aguero admits the Blues haven’t been firing on all cylinders this season, though there have been signs of late that City are re-discovering the swagger that won the title with such style last May.
He says: “We will be fine. We are not playing as well as we did last season but we are winning the matches anyway. We have the team, you know, so we definitely can play as we did last season and I think we will in the coming months.
“You have to think that this season we have had many important players injured - Nasri, Silva, Kompany, Clichy, Richards, and even myself a couple of times. There are no excuses, but that's the truth.
“We want to win the title for our fans who I have a wonderful relationship with. I’m so happy here. Only now do I realise what I did with my goal six months ago. The months went by and I understood what that goal meant for all of us.
“People in the streets are always telling me stuff about that goal. But I didn¹t realise what it had meant when I scored it, as I felt as if I were in another world.
“Even today, it is surprising for me when I arrive at the stadium and see those huge pictures of my goal. It¹s unbelievable for me that FIFA have chosen my goal as one of the 12 moments of the year. I hope to have many more moments like this in the future.”
