Joleon Lescott is hoping his old team-mates can cause an upset when Everton take on United this Sunday.

Though his departure from Goodison Park was somewhat acrimonious, the City defender believes David Moyes will lift his side with the target of European football still a possibility for the Merseysiders.

“Everton could definitely do us a massive favour on Sunday and I think there is every chance they will pick up something against United,” said. Lescott.

“I still have a lot of mates in the team and I called them to wish them luck before the FA Cup semi-final which obviously ended in disappointment for them, but knowing Everton Football Club and David Moyes so well, they will be up for the game at Old Trafford and look to bounce back straight away.”

Lescott, who played 113 games for the Toffees between 2006 and 2009 before his move to the Blues, reckons Everton boss Moyes will rally his players after their FA Cup semi-final loss to Liverpool and look to continue their excellent league form.

“I don’t think the manager would let their season just fizzle out and there is the opportunity to finish above Liverpool, so they will be desperate to get a result, which would be great for us,” said Lescott, who is poised to make his appearance for City at Wolvesth100.

All the games are going to be tough for both ourselves and United for different reasons but if we beat Wolves, the derby will take care of itself with so much at stake, regardless of whether we are five points behind them or not

“If we beat Wolves and United, that would reduce the gap to two points and then they play Swansea and Sunderland which won’t be easy.

“We just need to take care of our own games, try and win them all and then we’ve done everything we possibly could – if we don’t do that, it doesn’t really matter what United do because we won’t be able to catch them anyway.”
