Adebayor Tottenham

Emmanuel Adebayor has been in the headlines this week with City about to take on Tottenham in a top-of-the-table clash at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, but the Togo striker can’t play against his parent club.

Manu thought he’d added to his impressive tally of nine goals in 19 games for Spurs at the weekend, only to see his effort wrongly ruled out for offside. Elsewhere in the Premier League, Dedryck Boyata watched Bolton's 3-0 drubbing at Old Trafford from the substitutes' bench

Harry Bunn enjoyed a scoring debut for Preston North End  and was the weekend's stand-out performer.

After spending much of the early season with League One rivals Rochdale, Bunn moved to Deepdale at the start of the month and took no time settling in as he tapped home to pull his side level during the 3-2 win over Wycombe.

There was less luck for Oldham's Luca Scapuzzi, however. Unable to find a way past high-flying Huddersfield's defence, the Italian had just a yellow card to show for his efforts as his side were beaten by a goal in the dying minutes of the game.

It was a similar story for Bristol City's Ryan McGivern who was also booked during his side's 2-0 defeat at Brighton – a result that sees the Robins lying just three points above the Championship relegation places

One of those spots is currently taken up by Greg Cunningham's Nottingham Forest. Luke Chambers' sending off put Forest on the back foot early in the second half of their meeting with league leaders Southampton and Cunningham was unable to prevent his side's heavy 3-0 home loss.

Meanwhile, Ben Mee's Burnley moved to within three points of the Championship play-off spots with an unexpected 2-0 win at fourth-placed Middlesbrough – former City defender Kieran Trippier scoring the Clarets’ second.

Roque Santa Cruz scored again after coming on as sub as Real Betis came from two behind, only to lose 4-2 to Barcelona.

Elsewhere in La Liga, Vladimir Weiss' inclusion off the bench in the 57th minute of Espanyol’s game at Sevilla failed to have the desired effect as the Slovakian was unable to break the deadlock for his side.

Alex Nimely, who has joined Coventry City for the rest of the season, arrived too late to make his debut against Derby County
