Loan watch: Mee in form for Burnley

On-loan duo Ben Mee and Kieran Trippier had extra reason to celebrate this Boxing Day - other than seasonal cheer! - as their Burnley side won a fifth league game in six.

A 3-0 win over Doncaster lifted the Clarets into ninth and to within three points of the play-off places as the defensive pair continued to aid Burnley’s impressive climb up the table.

Reece Wabara’s Ipswich sustained their own mini-revival as they went a third game without defeat. With the City defender on the bench throughout, the Tractor Boys conceded the lead to draw 1-1 with the absent Michael Johnson’s Leicester.

Meanwhile, defeat at home to Peterborough left Greg Cunningham’s Nottingham Forest languishing in the Championship’s bottom three. Forest old boy George Boyd netted the only goal to sink the hosts who have now gone six consecutive games without scoring.

That result proved a major let off for Ryan McGivern’s Bristol City who are now without a win in five. Beaten 1-0 away at Coventry, Bristol continue to cling on to their place outside of the relegation zone.

Home form continues to evade Dedryck Boyata’s Bolton as two second half goals condemned the Trotters to a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle this weekend. Having lost eight of their nine contests at the Reebok, the Belgian’s side remain rooted in the bottom three.

Emmanuel Adebayor set up one of Gareth Bale’s two goals as Spurs kept pace with the top two with an accomplished win away to Norwich City.

Heavy winds caused damage to Tranmere’s Prenton Park ahead of their meeting with Rochdale which meant no game for Dale duo Harry Bunn and Ahmed Benali, but Luca Scapuzzi got 65 minutes under his belt for Oldham as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of managerless Hartlepool.

And while City’s on-loan European brood enjoy their respective winter breaks, David Gonzalez’s Aberdeen braved the Scottish cold but missed the chance to extend the six-point gap between them and the drop-zone by losing 2-1 to Inverness – the Columbian keeper unused on the subs bench.
