A number of City stars are currently plying their trade out on loan at other clubs. Here’s how they get on this weekend…
Vladimir Weiss is the first City player to win silverware this season as Rangers beat arch-rivals Celtic 2-1 in this weekend’s CIS Insurance Cup final. The Slovakian played a crucial role as his quick free-kick set up the winning goal in extra time.
There was further derby action in La Liga as Emmanuel Adebayor’s Real Madrid beat local rivals Atletico 2-1. The striker replaced goalscorer Karim Benzema in the 71st minute, but couldn’t stretch his side’s lead any further.
Elsewhere in the Spanish Primera Division, Felipe Caicedo played only 42 minutes of Levante’s 1-0 win over Deportivo before picking up an injury and being substituted.
Wayne Bridge helped bolster City’s bid for a place in next season’s Champions League as West Ham held Tottenham Hotspur 0-0, whilst Nedum Onuoha was left on the bench for Sunderland in their 2-0 loss against Liverpool.
At the bottom of the table, though he didn’t score, Roque Santa Cruz performed well for Blackburn as they rescued a point in the final minute in a thrilling 2-2 draw with fellow strugglers Blackpool.
Ben Mee’s Leicester were beaten 1-0 by Portsmouth but didn’t lose any ground in the Championship promotion race thanks to other results going their way. The Foxes remain five points off the play-off places.
Craig Bellamy and Cardiff City currently occupy one of those play-off spots, but they could only manage a 3-3 draw with Millwall this weekend. At 1-1, Bellamy thought he had won his side a penalty – only for the referee to then consult his assistant and decide that a corner should be given instead. No doubt he had something to say about that!
Colombian keeper David Gonzalez continues to warm the bench at Leeds United, who lost only their second game in 11 outings at Sheffield United and Kieran Trippier’s Barnsley lost 1-0 to Reading.
Andrew Tutte was instrumental for Yeovil as they came from behind twice to beat Exeter 3-2, while Abdi Ibrahim (pictured) has returned from his spell at Scunthorpe United.
