Roberto Mancini is delighted Carlos Tevez has withdrawn his transfer request.

The City boss always believed his skipper would stay and despite the 2-1 defeat to Everton, he believes the news will give the club a major boost going into the festive period.

“It is good news and a silver lining to our defeat to Everton – probably the only good news,” he said

“It was important Carlos decided this. It was important for everyone – for him, the squad and for our supporters. For all the people here, it is good news.”

Tevez retained the captaincy against the Toffees and Mancini believes the whole affair is better left in the past as the Blues attempt to cement their place in the top four over the hectic holiday programme.

With the Boxing Day trip to Newcastle closely followed by home games against Aston Villa and Blackpool, the City boss now wants to focus only on the future.

It is not important how this whole situation started, but it is important that we stopped talking about it

“All the people at the club were working for this outcome. Carlos always gives one hundred per cent and he is a very important player for us.”
