Cunningham joins Leicester

Greg Cunningham

Greg Cunningham

Greg Cunningham has joined Leicester City until January.

The Republic of Ireland international who made his most recent senior appearance for the Blues in the Carling Cup defeat at West Bromwich Albion played for the EDS side at Wigan last night before heading for the Walkers Stadium.

Cunningham’s chances to shine in his favoured left back position have been reduced dramatically by the return to fitness of England international Wayne Bridge and the arrival of Aleksander Kolarov who is also on the mend and almost ready to make a return to action.

In addition Cunningham has found Joleon Lescott blocking his path to the first team. However, the Blues rate him highly and the 19-year-old signed a new four-year deal back in August.

“It will be a great chance for me to hopefully get some first team football, to continue my football education and work under another top class coach in Sven-Goran Eriksson,” said the defender.

“Leicester seem to be coming into form just now. They won at Leeds on Tuesday night and are climbing the table; I hope I get the chance to help them continue that rise up the Championship table.”

Cunningham joins a whole host of City’s younger players who are already on loan. Kieran Trippier, Nedum Onuoha and Vladimir Weiss are just three others away at present.
