Hart picks up first full England cap

Joe Hart rounded off a great season for himself by earning his first England cap last night as Fabio Capello's men swept Trinidad & Tobago aside by three goals to nil in Port of Spain.

The Blues' keeper came on at half time to replace David James but he had more trouble from the heat at the Hasely Crawford Stadium than the hosts attack during his time on the pitch.

Hart will now hope to use the experience of being with the senior squad to push for inclusion in the party for the first international friendly of next season against the Czech Republic in August.

Elsewhere, Georgios Samaras almost proved to be a super-sub for Greece in their 0-0 draw with Armenia in Offenbach am Main, but his curling right-foot shot was spectacularly kept out by keeper Gevorg Kasparov after 51 minutes.

Another City goalkeeper, Andreas Isaksson, played the first half in Stockholm as Sweden ended their Euro 2008 preparations in defeat yesterday. Worse still, the home crowd sent their team off to this month's competition with boos ringing in their ears after Serhiy Nazarenko's 82nd minute goal gave Ukraine a 1-0 win.

One team heading to the Euros on a real high is the Netherlands as they continued their fine recent form against a young Wales side. Ched Evans came on as a 57th minute substitute to claim his second international cap of the week as John Toshack's men were defeated 2-0 in front of a crowd of over 48,000.

Further afield Elano was a second half substitute during Brazil's hard fought 3-2 victory over Canada in Seattle.
