New deal for Johnson

Teenaged midfielder Michael Johnson has signed a new four-year contract with City.

The 18-year-old, who was an integral part of the youth team that reached last season's FA Youth Cup final, began to feature regularly for the reserves towards the end of the last campaign.

A graduate of City's Academy system, Michael spent a few months at Feyenoord as a 12-year-old before starting his time with the Blues.

Michael, who takes the number 33 shirt, says: "I'm really pleased that the Club is showing their faith in me, I think anyone would be but I'm not thinking about that at the moment. All I want to think about for now is playing football.

"My target is getting into the reserves, cementing a firm place in the side with them and see how things go for me from there. I only started three reserve games last season, with the Youth Cup run, so I need to concentrate on making sure I get more games for them."

Several Academy graduates have moved over to the first team's training ground at Carrington, as has new reserve team manager Frank Bunn, who Michael is looking forward to working with again.

"Frank's never actually managed me in a game but he has always been there for me as a coach, so he should be a really good manager for me now," says Michael.
