Find out how our Manchester City EDS fared as they took on Liverpool U23s at the Liverpool Academy...

A late equaliser from George Johnston cancelled out Taylor Richards’ earlier goal to see the two sides share the spoils at the Liverpool Academy.

What happened

The game marked a return to the Premier League 2 after a number of our young Blues featured in our Checkatrade Trophy quarter-final away at Sunderland in addition to our FA Youth Cup triumph at Derby’s Pride Park in recent weeks.

We knew we had a task on our hands to seal the three points after we last met at the Etihad back in August, a meeting which saw us share the spoils with the Reds following a level scoreboard at full-time.

With a goalless first half under our belts, deadlock was finally broken just after the hour mark when Tom Dele-Bashiru set up Taylor Richards who put the ball past Shamal George to take us into the lead.

It marked Richards’ eighth goal of the season, and his third in the league so far.

It looked bright for Paul Harsley’s side as we neared the final whistle, but with just minutes left on the clock the Reds found their equaliser.

It was skipper George Johnston who wrote his name on the scoresheet, thanks to a helping hand from Adam Lewis, and saw the points shared between the two academy sides.

For the second time this season, it ended square between City and Liverpool.

What it means

City now move one point ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League 2 table on 21 points.
