Find out how Paul Harsley's EDS side fared in Friday night's Premier League 2 match away at Tottenham Hotspur...

City’s EDS side suffered a frustrating night on the road at Tottenham Hotspur as they slipped to a second successive Premier League 2 defeat.

First half goals from Troy Parrott and Paris Maghoma made it a doubly disappointing start to the 2019/20 Premier League season for Paul Harsley’s side following last Sunday’s loss to Southampton.

What happened

While Harsley’s troops were looking to respond to that hugely frustrating 4-3 loss to Southampton in our opening fixture, Spurs were seeking to build on a fine 4-0 triumph away at Liverpool first time out.

After a cagey opening spell which saw both sides testing each other out, City keeper Gavin Bazunu produced an excellent 18th minute save to deny Spurs midfielder Tashan Oakley-Boothe.

However, Spurs did manage to make the breakthrough nine minutes before half-time.

Dilan Markanday picked out Irish striker Troy Parrott in the City box.

And Parrott was able to swivel and turn in the box before then finding the top corner of the net with a well-struck shot.

Things then got even tougher for City right on the stroke of half-time.

Paris Maghoma was able to find a fraction of space before curling a fine shot home from the corner of the box to leave Harsley’s troops up against it.

City needed a second half response but instead the hosts almost struck again on 49 minutes with Parrott’s angled drive hitting the crossbar.

However, a third goal did arrive on 54 minutes.

Shilow Tracey was brought down in the box and Parrott made no mistake from the penalty spot, converting his second and Spurs’ third goal on the night.

City at least gained some reward for their efforts with seven minutes left as Nabil Touaizi converted at the second time of asking after his initial effort had been blocked in the box.

But it came too late to change the outcome on what was a tough night for Harsley’s side.

How we lined up

Gavin Bazunu was in goal shielded by a  back four of Alpha Dionkou, Jeremie Frimpong, Joel Latibeaudiere and Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

Skipper Tommy Doyle, Adrian Bernabe and Morgan Rogers made up the midfield trio with Jayden Braaf, Ben Knight and Nabi Touaizi deployed as an attacking trio.

What’s next

City’s EDS squad are back in action at the Academy Stadium this Friday, August 23, when we play host to Chelsea. The fixture gets under way at 7pm.
