Brahim enjoys free role in Reading victory

EMBRACE: Brahim Diaz and Paolo Fernandes celebrate City's equaliser

Manchester City midfielder Brahim Diaz was delighted with his role in City’s Premier League 2 victory over Reading.

The Spaniard lined up on the right wing for City but appeared to have a license to roam in order to help City break down their opponents.

It worked a treat as the 17-year-old fired in off the post from 30 yards to seal the victory for Simon Davies’ side.

Diaz said: “I had a lot of space on the pitch today and that was really good for me because I get to play everywhere. I always like to be central so I can turn, create space and pass forward in the most dangerous positions.

“I came inside and tried to put it in the top corner. Maybe it was one you only score every 10 shots but I saw it going in and I was really happy to help the team.

“We tried to play our game in the first half and although we couldn’t do it, we were confident if we kept playing that way in the second half. It took two great goals but we got the win we deserved in the end.”

The attacker has started in a wide range of positions so far this season and he believes his versatility is partly down to his ability with both feet.

“I think I’m better on my right of course but I’m not totally sure. I have more shots on my right but I can drive with both feet and I shoot a lot with my left too,” said Diaz.

“It’s a great thing to have because I can face a defender and pick which side I should go past them and that makes it harder for them.”

The Spaniard will face Reading again next week when City’s FA Youth Cup side face the Royals in the third round of the competition. It’s not an occasion he will be taking lightly.

He said: “I’m focused on reaching the title and because it’s my last year playing in the Youth Cup I would love to go all the way. We have a really good team and we’ll be going straight back into training expecting to be as ready as possible.”
