Real Madrid v City U19s: UEFA Youth League Round of 16 preview

City U19s are back in UEFA Youth League action on Tuesday evening…

Simon Davies will be in charge of his first game in the competition when he takes his side to the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano for the Round of 16 game against Real Madrid.

City played Schalke at this stage last season, progressing to the quarter-finals after a 3-1 win on penalties, and will be hoping for a repeat of that success on Tuesday.

The young Blues sealed a place in the Round of 16 after topping Group B on goal difference ahead of Sevilla, losing just one of their six games.

Top spot was confirmed on matchday six with a 1-1 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach at the Academy Stadium, with Blues coach Patrick Vieira signing off on a high before leaving for New York City FC.

Real Madrid finished second in Group A, a point behind PSG, and drew Swedish side Elfsborg in the play-off. A crowd of 6,668 packed into the Boras Arena to watch the Spanish side progress to the knockout phase with a 3-1 win.

Borja Mayoral proved to be Real’s hero with his brace and assist for Aleix Febas’ goal propelling them to victory.

Speaking ahead of the game, Angelino is in high confidence and believes that City will pose a difficult threat to the Spanish giants.

He told mcfc.co.uk: "I’m looking forward to the game. I haven’t played any games in the competition this season due to my loan so I’m really looking forward to playing against Real Madrid. Hopefully we’ll go there and pick up a win.

“They’ve got a few players who have been in and around the first team, similar to ourselves, but I feel that we have a great team that will pose a difficult challenge for them.”

Should the young Blues progress to the quarter finals of the UEFA Youth League, they will face either Czech side Pribram or Benfica of Portugal at home in the last eight.

Kick-off is at 5pm GMT (6pm CET) in Spain. We'll have updates on Twitter and a match report shortly after full-time. UEFA.com will be providing a live stream.
