City EDS will aim to officially launch the Academy Stadium in style when they face Schalke in the Premier League International Cup on Sunday.
The first game of a blue double header sees Patrick Vieira’s men take on the German side in front of a sell-out crowd at the opening of the new stadium, and a win could see them leapfrog Leicester into top spot in Group C.
Thousands have taken up the opportunity to come and watch the stars of the future in the brand new stadium ahead of the first team clash with Arsenal.
Winners in their solitary game in this competition to date, City saw off Benfica comfortably to the tune of 3-1 when the teams met at Ewen Fields in November.
Schalke, meanwhile, will be seeking their first points in the group after losing their opening two games of the fledgling continent competition.
Since the last outing in the International Premier League Cup, the EDS have been challenging near the top of the u21 Premier League, and currently lie third after a thrilling and well-deserved victory over a strong Chelsea outfit ten days ago.
Now, Vieira’s men will be looking for back to back victories at u21 level as they chase trophy success at home and in Europe.
Kick off is at 12 noon, and gates open at approximately 11am. All tickets have now gone.
We’ll have live goal updates over on twitter and a full match report shortly after full time. The game will also be screened live at City Square from 12pm.
