City reserves eased to a 3-0 win on Wednesday night at Northwich Victoria.

Ishmael Miller opened the scoring on 38 minutes with a close range effort, although the striker had the struck the post twice earlier with the kind of powerful efforts that became his trademark last season.

Daniel Sturridge was on target again in the 62nd minute, and substitute Ashley Grimes found the net with a fine individual effort five minutes later.

Nedum Onuoha made his return following February's ligament damage and the calf injury he suffered on the first day of pre-season training. The 18-year-old played in central defence and looked in no discomfort for the hour he was on the pitch before being substituted.

Team: Schmeichel, D'Laryea, Williamson, Onuoha (Grimes 59), M Mills, Johnson (Williams 70), Etuhu, Laird, Miller, Sturridge (Moore 81), Logan.

Unused subs: Matthewson, Breen
