The Manchester Tennis and Football centre hosted a FA Level One Football Coaching training course last week as part of the Success Through Sport project organised by City in the Community (CITC).
14 unemployed men from East Manchester and the Fallowfield area of Manchester completed the course which came at the end of an eight week programme for men between the ages of 18-25.
Success Through Sport is designed to help participants get back into work by getting more physically active and improving their skills and confidence.
Each week CITC works with up to 30 participants at two venues in Manchester, the Platt Lane Leisure Complex in Fallowfield and from this month at the Manchester Tennis and Football Centre at Eastlands.
The project, which is funded and supported by NHS Manchester, also aims to improve the health of participants with NHS Health Trainers present at sessions to give advice and support.
CITC’s Men’s Health Project Manager Steven Turner said: “To be able to run the course at the new pitches in the shadow of the stadium was great for the lads on the course and gave them a real boost.
“Having completed their Level One’s we will now work with them to find volunteering and eventually employment opportunities with local sports clubs and companies.”
The Success Through Sport project runs at the following times:
Tuesday 1pm – 3pm
The Manchester Tennis and Football Centre, Eastlands, Gate 2, Alan Turing Way, Manchester, M11 3FF
